She came to see me
I was impressed she was coming in for a routine checkup
21 was she
No concerns..
We discuss sex..
The sanctity of it
The sacredness of it
The implications of it
We discuss pregnancy prevention
We discuss all options given her wishes
She asks…
She trusts my opinion…
“What do I think is best?”
I said abstinence
She laughed
I did not… crickets…
“You’re serious?” she kept laughing
You said best… I retorted with a smirk …
I explained I am an HIV specialist
So I think best scenario…
We discuss IUD versus implant ..
We agree nexplanon…It’s an implant that goes under your skin and can help prevent pregnancy for up to 3 years…
We talk risk versus benefits
I place it 2 weeks later…
I beg her to use condoms still
And nudge her that the gift of her body is not for just anybody!
“Thanks doc… you sound like my mama.”
I thank her for that compliment.
Well like yo mama, I care about ya!!!
